I’m making my inaugural post using the new .Net application I’ve been writing for the past, oh, 2 years. Part of the reason I’ve kept CJ in PHP was 2-fold: I have some great software that I like to use in PHP (the gallery and RSS feed stuff) and secondly, there was no .Net support on Linux. You can trust the MS OS for playing video games, but not for hosting web sites in my book. So I put off a revamp for quite some time. I believe the last time I updated the CJ code was sometime in 2000.

Well, Linux got Mono a few months ago which is a Linux implementation of the .Net language. I’ve been messing around with it and it seems stable enough to serve a web site from. I guess we’ll find out.

A one thing to note: Commenting is disabled until I want you jokers to post crap to my site. And this time, you’ll have to fill in a name or you can’t post. The username Ass-Clown is already reserved for a friend. You’ll have to come up with something better than that.

There’s nothing like having someone look at your code and laugh at your mistake. It is all in good fun. I figure it’s better to accept responsibility and find a fix rather than finding a scapegoat. People aren’t typically looking for blame, they’re looking for a fix. So as long as I can find a fix, then the blame game sort of fades into the background.

RTF is the format Microsoft doesn’t like to talk about much because it’s an open, standard format. It allows you to do everything a Word document does but the format is portable. RTFs can be read on multiple platforms by a slew of editors. It’s a wonderful thing if you really understand the language. But it completely undermines Microsoft’s strangle hold on the industry. The funny part is I think they invented it.

I have almost finished ripping all of my live Pearl Jam discs. Over the holidays I added one more to the collection bringing the total number of bootlegs I own to 13, just over the mid point. I’m hoping that my relatives pick up on my habit and help me complete my collection for Christmas. *cough*

For those curious, I need the following discs: 3,4,6,7,11,12,13,14,17,21,22,24
*grin*

If you haven’t checked out There She Goes by the La’s I would definitely suggest doing so. Most of you will probably recognize it.

I think I probably got in about 4 hours of hardcore programming today. The rest of the day was spent sleeping and chasing this holy terror of a dog around.


The newest feature to Computer Jargon is the ablity to rearrange the right-hand pods on your journal page. What does this mean? Well, you can turn the pods off and on but THIS is even cooler. You can arrange the pods in any order you like. The interface isn’t perfect right now. Currently the UP/DOWN is just a couple of brackets in the title of the pod.

BTW – You will only see the arrows on your journal page. That way you aren’t rearranging my pods. ;)

It’s experimental and hasn’t been tested fully yet. Look for the “Update Options” menu item to give it a try!

In about 4 days I learned the greatness that is known as Cold Fusion. There’s a huge battle out there between Cold Fusion and PHP. I’ve had a taste of both and definately have a preference. Cold Fusion would be easy for someone to pick up who doesn’t know C/C++ to pick up. PHP on the other hand reads like a traditional computer language. I took a program written in PHP and converted it to Cold Fusion. In all honesty the CF version was about 100 lines shorter. That’s hard for me to admit.

On the personal front Final Fantasy 8 is out for the PC. I’m waiting for Best Buy to open this morning. I’m looking at RAM again. Prices are starting to become reasonable again.
