Something has got to be wrong with my DSL. I can’t even telnet into my Linux box without a good 5 to 10 second lag. My latency is horrid going into my box. But coming out of my network is lightening fast. So why is my upstream so screwed up? Hmm. Time to investigate some cool Linux programs to help troubleshoot the problem.
I’m about to head out for the weekend again. I finish up Christmas at my grandparent’s house this weekend. Then I can finally close the book on Christmas 2000 and start planning for Jason 2000 in March.
For those that care my windshield gets fixed Tuesday morning at 8 am. I found a place right on Hennipen when I can drop off the car and pick it up on the walk home.
Broken Industries was upgraded to RedHat 6.2 last night. It was less painless then the upgrade to RedHat 6.1. Maybe I knew what to expect this time. Anyway, it appears that DNS, HTTPD, and SMB are all working. They have been the thorn in my side. I need to figure out how the hell to get them to boot at startup. Somehow HTTPD has stopped booting at bootup. It’s very annoying. I think I’ll have to place a call into 1-800-BOJAY.
A new X-Men trailer is out. I’m very excited for this summer’s movie releases. There are going to be some really kickass geek movies coming out. Gladiator, Titan AE, X-Men. The list goes on and on.
Two power outages occurred last night at
the Jason Complex causing the Linux box
to take a serious digger. I had to crawl
behind it and unplug the power supply.
Just another reason why I need an APS. I
think I’ll seriously look into one now.
It makes me real nervous knowing that my
stuff can/will crash without be there.
On a lighter note I’m using Netscape 6
preview release 1 as my primary browser
now. I must say I am very happy with it.
It seems to be just as stable as
Netscape 4.72. I crashed once on both
browsers yesterday. The integrated AIM
client is interesting but what if I’m
not browsing the web and I want AIM to
be on? Well, I don’t want to keep
Netscape open just be to connected to
AIM. So I think I’ll stick with the
regular client for now unless
AOL/Netscape can figure something better
out.
Yes! I’ve set a personal best! My Linux box has been up for 30 days and 2 hours! Wahoo! Of course I’ve had to thwart the urge to upgrade the machine to topple my previous best. The next upgrade is supposedly a 40 gig hard drive but I don’t see that in the near future. Some orders have gone “eternally backordered” so I don’t know if I’ll ever see a 40 gig drive any time soon.
In other news I watched Eyes Wide Shut this weekend. I was pleasantly surprised. I firmly believe if you can let go of your inhabitions to nudity and gratuitous sex it is a great movie. Stanley Kubrick is a genius and this one ranks right up there with the best. Most people I talk to were very turned off by all the nudity. Yes, at some times it was hard to watch with my girlfriend sitting right there. But I think if you can look passed the visuals and listen to the dialog, follow the story, and keep interested for 3 hours, it’s a great movie.
Here’s a new Screenshot for those screenshot lovers:

Broken Industries has been upgraded to RedHat 6.1. Minimal damage was done. Loss of DNS, WWW, and Samba occurred. That’ll teach me to back up my conf files. Not much else. Oh yeah, Enlightenment reverted to version 15.5 which was/is a pain in my side. Mail didn’t go down. Have I mentioned today that I love Linux?
Just had 17 days of uptime on the good ol’ Linux box but then something in X started sucking RAM and Swap like no tomorrow. When I quit X it locked the system. Stupid X.
I now have 5 minutes of uptime….dammit.
