The total cost of ownership of a Drobo runs about $750 ($500 for Drobo and ~$250 for hard drives). Given my current streak of one new HD a year, that means I would have an initial investment of $750 + $100 a year for replacement drives.

For the initial investment cost of the Drobo I can subscribe to Mozy for 12.5 years. I hope that in that timeframe an even better solution arrives. And if it does then I'm still saving money because I hadn't spent all the upfront money for a Drobo.

The only downside to Mozy is the uploading and downloading. That's not really Mozy's problem though. Most of issues with Comcast.

What about Drobo? No longer interested, or was not as feasible as Mozy?
