I think this one is going into extra innings, folks. The doctor told Courtney yesterday that there’s a potential physics problem between the baby’s size and her pelvis. It seems Motylinskis breed ginormous (the official medical term) babies. Courtney is too petite for the size of the baby and may require a c-section. Right now this is mostly speculation, but the doctor said babies that haven’t moved lower in the abdomen at this point are typically bigger than what will fit in the lower nether regions. Court asked him if that meant there’s little chance that this baby will be an easy 6 pounder. He laughed and said she passed that mark weeks ago.

Courtney has a scheduled ultrasound next Monday to determine just how big this kid is. It will also help determine whether we should attempt an inducement or go straight to the c-section.

We have been waiting for a curveball the entire pregnancy. I think this might be it. For those that don’t watch “A Baby Story” religiously c-sections are quite common but also quite painful to recover from. Mom typically cannot lift the baby for the first week and also needs time to recover from surgery. It’s nothing severely traumatic to mom or baby but just not one of those things that you really want to go through.

On the flipside, the birth will be less painful and the kid won’t have a conehead.
