Thanksgiving Day Pictures are now available for your viewing pleasure.

Circa 1993

In the last week I’ve coincidently run across two pictures of a girlfriend of mine from high school. They’ve popped up in the oddest of places, too. I’ve already lost one of them again but this one is still around. Ok, ok, it’s probably not nice of me to go around posting random photos I find of people so I’ll throw this one up of me circa the same time period. The last time I ran into Sara was sometime around 1998 on the River Falls campus when she told me a story about a prior weekend polishing off a bottle of Creme de Mint. I believe she went on to become a school teacher and marry. I ran into her father at my brother’s grooms men golf outing but didn’t exchange words.

Update : - By the way, notice my long, flowing, beautiful hair. Oh how I miss it! ~groan~

Payday

bars, work No Comments »

Tomorrow is payday. I love going to the bar on payday. It just seems right. Nothing beats walking in with a brand new paycheck in hand and asking for their finest brew.

Thanksgiving came and went quickly. I enjoyed my fair share of turkey and family. I tried to bulk up as much as possible for the onset of winter, which came quicker than I think any Minnesotan wanted. It’s here now. Time to change jackets.

I’m a little overly concerned about Christmas gifts this year. Last year Courtney and I went nuts buying people gifts that we liked that we thought others would too. It’s a good way to shop, just look for cool stuff you like and find someone to give it to. But it seems a little passŠ this year. I’m also not one of those people who have all my shopping done in September. I’ve got 4 weeks to get it all done.

An Unexpected Compliment

I had to get my suit altered tonight. I took it took the nearest Mens Wearhouse to get the waist taken in a bit. At one point the attendant asked if it was actually my suit. The suit was a bit larger than I am now. Actually, it was much bigger than me. They had to take the waist in by four inches.

About 8-9 months ago I started going to the gym with Frank over lunch. We go to the gym roughly 5 times a week. I’ve lost 15-18 pounds and I’m within 3 pounds of my goal weight. My diet has altered slightly and is no where near perfect. But I try to eat better than I was last year at this time.

People have been noticing. I’ve received random compliments from random people at work lately. If you ask me, I still have the same love-handles and the same beer belly. I feel more comfortable with myself now which makes me a more confident person. And it’s always nice to get a random compliment from unexpected places.

Weekend Recap

bars, birthday, movies No Comments »

If you’re curious what I did this weekend, here’s the Late-Monday afternoon recap:

Friday - After enjoying one-too-many beers at BW3s, Courtney and I invited ourselves over to Chad and Tina’s where we continued to drink the evening away. We played the perfect drinking game called Apples to Apples. It is a simple game, perfect for tom-foolery. After kicking everyone’s ass (okay, I lost big time) we went home.

Saturday - Saw The Incredibles. I was very happy it was more of an adult-ish movie. In between all the laughing, I did take notice of the beautiful new lighting techniques used. Everything looked very three dimensional. Brad Bird did a great job on the movie. And don’t think I didn’t notice Jason Lee as the bad guy.

Sunday - Dad’s birthday celebration. Hung out with the fam, did fam things. I even pelted Drew with a roll at the dinner table. That’ll teach ‘em to invite me to dinner!

After spending every waking moment doing yard work over the last month or so it was nice to have an entire weekend to myself to just relax and turn the brain off for a few hours.

Dig Out the Old Pixies LPs

concerts, music No Comments »

The Pixies were in town last night for a show at Roy Wilkins. It was a phenomenal show. They played every great song I knew by them and they played them well. Both Black Francis and Kim Deal sounded great, as if 14 years hadn’t passed. I’ve never seen anyone scream so effortlessly as did Frank Black. He made it look easy. For 2 hours they rocked us with all the favorites: Gouge Away, Is She Wierd, Hey, La La Love You, Nimrod’s Son, Caribou, Crackity Jones, Here Comes Your Man, Got Something Against You, Where is My Mind?…The list goes on and on.

I can now die a happy man after seeing the Pixies in concert. I remember picking up their album in the mid 90s thinking that I’d never be able to see them live. I’d be surprised if the Pixies don’t tour again. They put on a great live show.

Who's Grand Idea was It to See Deuces Wild?

Friday evening we ventured once again to see the wonderful and fabulous Deuces Wild show. The word had gotten out about how sweet these two guys are because the place was packed by 7:30, 2 hours before the show started. We had to watch them from the back of bar for the first half of the show. We were lucky to score some closer seats to enjoy the end of it. I don’t remember much, again, but I did manage to remember to bring my camera this time.

Okay, Kids, We're Going to Take This Slow So Everyone Can Keep Up

The following post will be filled with geek-speak and a little bit of mumbo-jumbo. Proceed at your own risk.

I’m making my inaugural post using the new .Net application I’ve been writing for the past, oh, 2 years. Part of the reason I’ve kept CJ in PHP was 2-fold: I have some great software that I like to use in PHP (the gallery and RSS feed stuff) and secondly, there was no .Net support on Linux. You can trust the MS OS for playing video games, but not for hosting web sites in my book. So I put off a revamp for quite some time. I believe the last time I updated the CJ code was sometime in 2000.

Well, Linux got Mono a few months ago which is a Linux implementation of the .Net language. I’ve been messing around with it and it seems stable enough to serve a web site from. I guess we’ll find out.

A one thing to note: Commenting is disabled until I want you jokers to post crap to my site. And this time, you’ll have to fill in a name or you can’t post. The username Ass-Clown is already reserved for a friend. You’ll have to come up with something better than that.
