6 years outta high school and Emily is still telling me that I’m late to the party on good music. Damn you, Em.
I’ve been selling my Simpsons toys on Ebay. The experience of selling used crap has been 75% good. I say that because I’ve sold 4 things and only one transaction has gone sour. And it had to be my first sale too. Maybe I’ll post the email logs of what happened because it’s quite humorous. Basically a lady wanted to buy all 4 of my toys and get a deal on shipping. I told her that I could cut the rate on shipping. So after the first auction closed I emailed her and thanked her for bidding on my stuff. I asked if we could wait for the other auctions to close so I would know how much shipping would be. That’s where the communication broke down. She thought I was screwing her over. I thought I was being a nice guy. In the end, without prompting, she sent me the following message, “however in the future do not do not accept any of my bids in case by error i bid in your auctions as i feel you are not the type person i want to do business with!” I don’t think english was her first language. This is actually fullfilling two needs in the Motylinski household. 1. It’s getting these toys outta here and 2. It’s going to pay a good portion of my taxes. After looking at some tax sites it seems I have jumped tax brackets. You know, the jump where the government takes 35% instead of 27%. So I came up 800-some bucks short this year. Yikes.
I came home sick today. I wasn’t feeling so hot. Everyone’s been sick. Court, Bosses, Rick. Everyone. And I hadn’t gotten anything. But finally it hit me today. I don’t think it was the sickness that made me come home though. I think it was the Dayquil.

hmm. Some good movies are comin’ out this weekend. Well, let me take that back. 1 is, and it’s not Crossroads. I would suggest everyone find someone who likes fart jokes and check out Super Troopers. It should be well worth the 5 bucks. This one is going to fly under the mainstream’s radar so catch it now while it’s in the theaters.
Last weekend Court and I caught a viewing of Beautiful Mind. It was worth the money but I can’t see watching it again. I’m more of a fart joke sorta guy(I just finished watching American Pie and am watching Dazed and Confused). I dug and appreciated Beautiful Mind. The acting was top notch. But in the end I just can’t stand to watch a movie about the debilitating life of someone.
Lastly, I picked up the movie Ghostworld on DVD just on a whim, hoping it would be one of those sleepers I’d never heard too much about. Well, it was…interesting. It was lower budget and for that I give it kudos. But the story was weak. Basically 2 girls graduate from high school and don’t know where to go. The main character befriends Steve Buscemi. I’m a huge Buscemi fan but the movie failed to make me believe that Thora Birch was truly intregued by him. In fact, she seemed to just be screwing with him the entire movie. Yet, in the end, she is supposed to be in love with him. Odd. If it’s a toss up at Blockbuster between this and Spaceballs. Get Spaceballs.

I have two things today. First off, lets start with the good. If you haven’t checked out the Strokes yet then stop reading this lame post and go, NOW! The Strokes are the closest we are going to get to a Velvet Underground reincarnation without de-aging Lou Reed by 40 years. They have some HOT tracks. Last Nite, Hard to Explain, and Take It or Leave It just to name a few. If you have the god forsaken Realplayer installed on your computer check out their video. I would link the video but some dingleberry decided to create their site in flash.
Second, the not so fun topic. I’d like to address the use of the phrase “Let’s roll!” which has crept into more frequent usage in our day to day conversations since September 11th. If you have forgotten, “Let’s roll” was the last thing heard on a cell phone from the gentleman on the flight over Pennsylvania which ended up crashing with their heroic efforts. Good ol’ G.W. used the phrase shortly after the incident to envoke our emotions and tug at our hearts. But now the phrase is being bastardized in every sense. Sports players say it before games to attempt to envoke those same powerful emotions which we assume the overtakers of the flight must have been feeling. Hell, a guy at work used it to try to get us to work harder on a project. By abusing the phrase we are no longer honoring the memories of the true heroes who saved hundreds of lives by choosing to end theirs. There is no way you can compare a computer development project to the overthrowing of an airliner. I will not take my life for a job nor should I. So please, if you are trying to honor those true heroes of September 11th by using their phrase please think again. Nothing we do in our daily lives will ever live up the what they did for us.

I didn’t want to come to work this morning so I sat around in my underwear organizing some of my random digital photos I had on my hard drive. The good ones I posted in the misc gallery. I think my favorite picture is this one at christmas time.
