I was able to play around with MacOSX yesterday on my father’s brand new Titanium Laptop. I haven’t been keeping up with my Macintosh news so I wasn’t really prepared to take her out for a true test drive. But with a few suggestions from my brother I was able to find the command line and do some “under the hood” investigation. I would like to sit down with one of those and truly hash through the new interface. My initial impression is that, as true to the Apple OS’s, everything feels fat and big. It feels like you are using something made for a child because all the icons are big and pretty. They make you want to click on them. I must say the throbbing OK buttons did live up to my expectations. The Finder was noticeably sluggish and annoying. But once I found the command line I felt right at home. I went to town running simple commands just to see what was going on. Nothing spectacular. Overall, once Apple gets the finder speed up to a decent pace one of those fancy new TiBooks will be on my wishlist.
