Something’s wrong

Personal No Comments »

Something has got to be wrong with my DSL. I can’t even telnet into my Linux box without a good 5 to 10 second lag. My latency is horrid going into my box. But coming out of my network is lightening fast. So why is my upstream so screwed up? Hmm. Time to investigate some cool Linux programs to help troubleshoot the problem.

I’m about to head out for the weekend again. I finish up Christmas at my grandparent’s house this weekend. Then I can finally close the book on Christmas 2000 and start planning for Jason 2000 in March. :)
For those that care my windshield gets fixed Tuesday morning at 8 am. I found a place right on Hennipen when I can drop off the car and pick it up on the walk home.

Dear World.

Dear World,
Curse You.

Jason

My car window cracked today. The only upside is the ding in my window will now get replaced. I suppose this sucks all the way up to when it gets replaced. After it’s replaced I’ll probably love my new windshield.

What God?

Okay, someone answer me this because it’s got me pissed. If religions are supposed to be all-encompassing, all-loving, and all-accepting, why will they not marry non-members of the church? If God is so all-caring why do I have to have the priviledge of belonging to a church to be married under God? The Lutherans are no better than the Catholics.

Just about done

Well, for all intensive purposes Christmas is over. I have to head back to the grandparent’s house next weekend but all the other relatives have been covered. I spent a whirlwind 24 hours at Courtney’s grandparent’s yesterday. I’ve never seen so many people in one spot in my life. I like to think my family is larger. But mine pales in comparison to the amount of relatives which manage to jam themselves into that small house in the middle of Wisconsin.

So, what did I get? A ton of stuff I would have never bought for myself. But that’s the good thing. That’s why I love Christmas. Not because there are things that I want. If I want something. I go get it. I love the fact that someone took some time out of their life to find something that would represent how important our relationship is. So, on to the list.

1. A subscription to Linux Journal (The geekest thing I got this Christmas)
2. A Zen fountain
3. An Mp3/CD Player

4. Pants, 2 Sweatshirts, and a neck/hood thingy.
5. A “Who moved my cheese?” desk calendar
6. A food mixer
7. A book of The Onion articles and a t-shirt that says “I’m in a promising local band.”

That’s all I can remember off hand. If I missed something it’s not due to my distaste with it. I just have a horrible memory. And no, this is not in any sort of order.

Okay, what I am really doing is just killing time before a meeting. I have a hard time concentrating when I know danger is looming. Here’s a quick gallery I’ve thrown together from images off the webcams.

I’m a wordy MF today. Just thought I would also note that it was 1 year on Tuesday that Broken Industries/Computer Jargon came online in it’s current form. Wahoo! Cheers! Someone pass the Ibuprofen.

I’m blatantly stealing this from kottke.org. Here’s a link to the 50 Greatest Moments in The Simpsons history.

Hung over

I did a rare thing last night. I got drunk on a weeknight. I’m not against such actions, just not used to them. I’m paying for it this morning. I think even the glow from my monitor is too bright.

2 days left of work. It’s always so hard for me to drop everything at work and go on vacation. I have such a hard time just letting go. I have many people tell me that I shouldn’t worry too much. But someone should be concerned about these issues. It might as well be me.

I say “might as well” too much. It pisses me off.

As many of you know, Courtney and I attended a polo match this summer. It was fun and entertaining hanging out with a bunch of snobs. The gentlemen seated next to us spoke about his flower shop “Indulgence and Beyond.” He went into great detail about the success of the store and whatnot. On the way home a couple of nights ago I noticed a flower shop on Hennepin called Indulgence and Bloom. I swear to God this was the store the gentlemen were talking about. The guy at the counter was a dead ringer for the man at the polo match. I can remember sitting next to him at the game wondering what his store would look like. Now I know. And it’s a very fine store indeed.

Dammit I left a light on in my apartment. Talk about annoying.

You know what else is annoying? Not being able to find the last character to complete my Simpsons Wave II collection. The elusive toy is Waylon Smithers.

*ahem* User account creation fixed. Thank you to the anonymous poster. Please let me know if any other errors pop up. Also, I managed to delete 7 accounts. Sorry. The 4 important ones are still there (Dino, Em, Jason, Rico). Why are these important? These are the 4 accounts with journal entries.

Rico and I stumbled upon a cool technology on Monday. The ability to read ID3 tags from mp3s. Yes, it’s geeky, but if an mp3 is ripped appropriately the ID3 tags can be quite helpful. We figured it out in ASP and PHP because I refuse to use a Microsoft product in my free time (unless it’s to play games. :) )

3 days to go. Then a nice 4 day vacation. Although Christmas is never a true holiday because every day is spent running around from house to house. Sitting around, bullshitting with everyone. I’m already booked Friday through Monday.
